What do the upholstery codes on my furniture mean for cleaning?

ShareThis
Have a spill on your new couch and trying to decipher what that X means for the cleaning code on the deck tag underneath the cushions?  Here is a list of the most common codes, and what the code means:

W:The code "W" means that your furniture should be able to be cleaned with water.
S: The code "S" means that a furniture cleaning solvent can be used on your piece.
SW: The code "SW" means that both water and solvent can be used to clean your furniture.
X: This code means that you should not apply water or solvents to this particular piece of furniture, and instead should clean it using a soft brush, or in the case of deep staining, by taking the upholstery to be dry cleaned.

Please note that the deck tag may also list fabric types, but by law, the manufacturer only has to list the fabric contents inside the cushions.  The actual fabric type on the outside of the cushion is probably not listed anywhere on the actual piece of furniture, so use extreme caution when cleaning fabric.  When it comes to the amount of cleaning solution you use, less is better for fabric. posted: April 19, 2013

What to do with a fresh spot or spill if you are leaving the house.

ShareThis
Have your kids spilled right when you're bundling them up to leave the house, or the dog leave a puddle just as you're exhausted and going to bed?  Heaven's Best always recommends cleaning up a spot or spill as soon as it happens for best results.  We know life does not always cooperate in this manner though, so here is a little tip.  If you absolutely cannot properly treat a spot right away, take some old towels (preferrably white) and fold them up and put them on the spot.  Then, take something heavy that won't bleed color, like a boot or a plastic tub, and place it on top of the towels.  This weight on top will cause some of the spot to wick up into the towels and leave you less of a spot to clean when you are able to properly address it.  posted: January 9, 2013

Cleaning Tip: Don't forget the baseboards!

ShareThis
If you happen to be deep cleaning your house, Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaning of Denver would remind you to look at cleaning the baseboards. All you need is a small duster and a damp towel. First wipe the baseboards with the duster and then wipe them down with the damp towel. For a more efficient cleaning, do one section at a time. Dust the baseboard and then wipe it down. Then move to the next section. This little step will actually make your flooring in general look cleaner as well. posted: January 19, 2012
