Lingering pet spot odors after cleaning

ShareThis
Pet accidents are one of the joys of pet ownership.  If your pet has an accident, cleaning the spot immediately with Heaven's Best Pet Spotter or a similar product designed specifically for pets is the ideal way to go. Immediate treatment will usually provide good results.  Sometimes, however, a spot that has been cleaned and looks clean may still emit odor from the spot.  Please note, a general odor may exist after the first cleaning, so give it time and let it dry before any attempts are made to readdress the spot.  If it is dry and the odor still exists, don't be afraid to do a 2nd treatment with the pet spotter in the area to help with this odor.  After it dries, if an odor still persists, another option is to apply a little baking soda to the area and leave it for 12-24 hrs to help absorb any lingering odors. After givng it some dwell time, just vacuum it up. posted: January 24, 2013

What are some rug storage tips?

ShareThis
Many people have expensive area rugs that for many reasons are stored away for a period of time, whether brief or more long term. Unfortunately, just rolling up the rug and putting in the storage room in the basement or the garage is not the ideal way to store a rug, and can often times ruin it. Here are the steps you should take for proper rug storage of any rug you value: 1. Get the rug professionally washed. This removes damage causing debris and potentially any hitchhiking bugs. 2. Roll and wrap the rug. This is more involved than just rolling it up and putting it in a plastic bag. 3. Elevate the rug when storing. Don't leave it on the floor where boxes can be stacked on it, potential water leaks can get to it, or pests can find it and make it home. 4. Check the rug annually. Set it and forget it should not apply to rug storage. If you have a rug you want prepared for storage, don't hesitate to contact Heaven's Best and we can assist you in this process. posted: August 20, 2012

My dog pee'd, now what do I do?

ShareThis
Heavens Best Carpet Cleaning Denver has many suggestions to help clean up Fido's accident. If a pee spot is new, your first step should be to blot up as much as you can. Don't apply anything until you blot as this will just make the spot bigger. Once you've gotten everything you can by blotting, then apply a spotter (specialized spotters for pet spots like a pet enzyme are preferrable). When applying the spotter, you must apply approximately as much spotter as there was pee. Otherwise, there may be urine still in the carpet/pad that the spotter does not reach. Allow adequate dwell time (15-45 mins depending on severity) for the spotter to work, but don't let it dry. Once again, start blotting till no more comes up. You can finish by putting a towel over the spot and putting something heavy on it for 12-24 hrs to absorb anything that may still be in the pad. A second or even third application is sometimes required to remove the odor if it is a repeat offender spot. If yellowing remains, try mixing 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon ammonia applying it to the spot and just allow it to dry on its own. posted: December 21, 2011

How do I get the most of out my vacuum?

ShareThis
Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaning of Denver knows that vacuuming is not a chore people look forward too. That said, if you are going to do it, make the most out of your time. Industry experts say to properly vacuum, you must vacuum each area 5 times from multiple directions, which means 10 times for each area. Most people will not have time for this, so when vacuuming, make sure to focus on the high traffic areas first. Getting the high traffic areas removed of soil/sand and other debris will greatly extend the life and appearance of your carpet. The lesser traffic areas can be saved for doing every other time. Also, empty that bag/bin before you start! posted: March 13, 2012

My carpet doesnt look dirty, why should I clean it?

ShareThis
Heavens Best Carpet Cleaning Denver hears this response often. Unfortunately, too many people wait until their carpet looks dirty before they schedule a cleaning. Today's generation of carpets are designed to hold their weight in dirt (approximately 1 lb per square foot) without showing any sign of it. Waiting until your carpet "looks dirty" is too long and unrepairable damage has already been done. Regularly scheduled cleanings based on your homes layout, number of kids/pets, and other factors are the best way to prolong the life of your carpet, and Heavens Best Carpet Cleaning Denver has the experts to help you out with this. posted: December 27, 2011

What is the process for cleaning carpet the right way?

ShareThis
Heaven's Best sees a lot of people cleaning carpet the right way, and a lot cleaning it the wrong way.  What steps should be taken by a certified professional carpet cleaner.
1. Preinspection - this includes walking through the house and identifying problem areas before any cleaning starts.
2. Vacuuming - All good cleaners should first dry vacuum the carpet.
3. Cleaning - here's the actual cleaning.
4. Grooming - Carpet should be groomed after it is cleaned to help the carpet stand up and dry faster.  Some spots can also be hidden by the pattern in the carpet left by cleaning equipment.
5. Post Inspection - No job is complete without a thumbs up.

There are many more steps that can be included in the cleaning process (i.e. pet treatment, application of carpet protectant, etc), but these steps are the basics that should be done on every professional cleaning job.  posted: March 4, 2013

Removing animal hair from carpet and upholstery

ShareThis
Does your dog or cat like to lay/lean against the couch or one of the risers on the stairs? If they do, an easy way to remove the hair that they shed off is to take a wet rubber dish washing glove or a wet towel and rub it in one direction where the hair is located. This will usually remove the majority of the hair and will only take a few seconds to do. posted: July 30, 2012

How can I get my carpet cleaned in my high rise condo?

ShareThis
Heaven's Best often gets asked if we can clean hallways or condo carpeting in tall buildings.  Our answer is always yes.  All of our cleaning equipment is portable, and whether you have a 1 story house, or are on the 31st floor of a building, we can clean your carpet, upholstery, tile and grout, or hardwood floors for you.    Truckmounted machines are limited by the length of their hoses, and the further you are from their machine, they dramatically lose heat and suction (which means potentially wetter carpeting for longer periods of time and less soil removal).  Also, it is never recommended to run unsecured hoses out of windows or patio doors, especially if you are on the 3rd floor or higher. If unsecured, the hoses can move around and potentially cause damage to the window sill, the outside of the building, or even break windows below.  posted: April 4, 2013
