Why do I have dark lines on the carpet along my baseboards?

ShareThis
Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaning of Denver has seen our fair share of black and grey lines along the baseboards. In the industry, these are known as filtration lines. Your carpet is one big air filter, and if there are gaps between the wall and the floor at the baseboards, the hot & cold air will flow between these gaps, and in doing so the carpet will filter any impurities out of the air just like your homes air filter on your duct lines. These filtered impurities are usually a very fine oily particulate that is statically charged. Due to the properties of it, these filtration lines can be very difficult to remove, and sometimes they will not come out. Add to it that they usually occur by the baseboards, which makes it tougher for us to get much agitation when we try and clean them. Besides by baseboards, they can also occur under curtains, furniture skirting, and doors that usually remain closed to rooms that have air registers. The best way to keep these filtration lines from occurring is to change your air filters out regularly., especially smokers. posted: April 30, 2012

How do I extend the life of my expensive area rugs?

ShareThis
Heaven's Best of Denver often gets asked how to vacuum and care for expensive area rugs, especially wool rugs.  Under a microscope, a wool fiber looks like an unopened pine cone.  In order to get soil that wedges in the crevices of the fiber, you must be thorough in your vacuuming. First give the top of the rug a thorough vacuuming.  Then, flip the rug over and vacuum the back fo the rug.  The beater bar from your vacuum will help vibrate out some of the trapped dirt, much like when people would hang their rugs outside and beat them many years ago.  Finally, put the rug back right side up and revacuum the top again to get the soil you knocked loose out.  Sometimes, you may have to also vacuum/sweep the floor underneath the rug in between steps as you will see some of the soil you have knocked out.  posted: September 26, 2012

How often should commercial carpet be cleaned?

ShareThis
Commercial carpet, although potentially different from home carpeting in construction or fiber type, still requires routine maintenance.  In order to determine how often this is required, an onsite inspection by a certified cleaner like Heaven's Best is the best route to go.  Businesses should have their carpets cleaned regularly to help keep a healthy work environment, plus to keep the business looking good. Employee's and customer's both view dirty work environments as turn offs, so make sure to take a look around and see if your business needs a Heaven's Best maintenance program to keep the carpet looking good.  posted: March 14, 2013

It's going to get messy out, should I wait until Spring to clean my carpet?

ShareThis
NO.  Heaven's Best Denver understands why many people think this way, but this is unfortunately not the case.  Your carpet and upholstery act as big air filters in your home, filtering impurities out of the air.  This is a good thing as they help clean the air in your house. Studies have shown that carpet actually helps those with allergies when properly mantained, versus hard surface floors which don't trap airborn particulates.  When this becomes a bad thing is when they reach a point of oversaturation so to speak and no longer can filter the air.  When this happens, it makes the air in your home worse for you.  Indoor air in general is usually worse than outdoor air in terms of air quality, and during the winter months most people close up their house, which eliminates fresh/clean air coming in. Likewise, they run their furnace more too, which adds more potential harmful impurities into the air.  So, if your carpet or upholstery hasn't been cleaned in a while, make sure to get it cleaned right before or during the winter months to provide a healthier home environment for you and your family. posted: November 14, 2012

Watch the water in your Christmas tree!

ShareThis
Just a friendly reminder for all of you with real trees from Heaven's Best.  Always be careful when adding water to your tree stand.  If water spills and gets any wrapped presents wet, it can cause the dyes in the wrapping paper to bleed onto your carpet.  These dyes are normally man made dyes and can be very difficult to remove, especially if they have sat there for weeks unnoticed.  Tree skirts can also bleed color too, so just use extra caution this holiday season if you are watering your real Christmas tree. posted: December 10, 2012

How do I remove blood from carpet?

ShareThis
Heavens Best Carpet Cleaning Denver advises to use caution when removing blood. The first thing to try on a fresh blood spot is cold water. Make sure not to use hot water as hot water can set the stain in. If cold water doesn't work, you can also try a spotter, like our Heaven's Best spotter, or you can try some hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide has mild bleaching properties that can be effective for spots like blood, but please use caution as it can potentially bleach out the carpet in general. posted: December 20, 2011

Interesting Colorado Facts - Ice Palace

ShareThis
The largest building made out of ice in North America was built in Leadville in 1895. It covered more than 3 acres, with towers as high as 90 feet. Shaped like a medieval castle, it had two ballrooms and a 16,000-square-foot skating rink. Leadville's Ice Palace opened January 1, 1896 but was forced to close two months later because of unseasonably warm weather. How can I DIY and clean my carpets well?

ShareThis
Heavens Best Carpet Cleaning of Denver loves giving advice for people who want to clean their own carpet, whether it's renting a Rug Doctor or using their own Bissell/Hoover/Spot Bot. The first thing to remember is it is going to take some time to do it properly. First and foremost, you must thoroughly vacuum the carpet. Make sure your vacuum bag is empty and no hoses are clogged. If you don't prevacuum, you will potentially just create mud (please note many "professional" cleaners also do a disservice to their customers and skip this step). After vacuuming, start cleaning. The key to cleaning your own carpet is making sure you don't over wet your carpet. Remember, it is easier to add more if needed, than it is to remove the excess you may have put down. For every 1 "wet" stroke, you should do at least 3 "dry" strokes that suck up the solution. If done properly, your carpet should be dry in about 4-8 hrs. If your carpet is wet for longer than 8 hrs, the potential for mold growth or damage to the carpet itself becomes an issue. Once again, many "professionals" have the public convinced that having wet carpet for 12+ hrs is the norm when you get your carpet cleaned. It is not the norm, and should never be. One other thing to consider. If you religiously clean your home carpet, try running just water through the cleaning unit and no cleaning solution every 3rd or 4th time. Many store brand cleaning solutions are soap based, and if you don't remove all of the soap residue, your carpets will get dirty faster, so doing just a rinse can help remove any potential residue.
